My Students

Imagine being in kindergarten and struggling with recognizing your letters and letter sounds. My students are lacking basic Language Arts skills that they need to achieve higher thinking skills that they need for the future.

My students come to our school because they live in the immediate neighborhood.

Many of them walk or take the bus to get to school every day. Most of them come from a low income family with only one parent who is struggling to hold the family together. They suffer from low academics and many suffer from ADHD. They come to learn but some days it is a struggle to keep them on task. I have to make sure that we are always on the move and we have a lot of hands on activities and movements planned for the day.

My Project

Picture a class of students sitting at their desk simply looking out into space, day dreaming and not completing their work. Add on the vision of them lacking social skills and arguing with each other. Now, picture that same group of students collaborating and completing assignments with hands on materials. My students would use the Alphabet Mystery Box, Rhyming Match-Ups, Beginning Sound Train, word building puzzles, and letter sound puzzles to strengthen their skills in Language Arts. All the materials listed will strengthen and build Language Arts scores while helping to boost confidence. All of these materials will impact my students in the area of Language Arts, including reading. I would use these materials in small, collaborate groups to strengthen skills in my below grade level students that continue to struggle. They can work together and help each other while having fun.

These materials will allow my students to build concrete, essential skills that they need to have to achieve basic Language Arts skills.

The materials are all hands-on and will allow the students another revenue of learning. They will also promote collaboration and team building skills.
