This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine walking to school when it's 30 degrees outside in nothing more than a t-shirt. For too many of my students, this isn't the latest fashion trend or social media challenge, but rather from lack of warmer clothing.
My students are bright individuals, who are happy to be back at school in person, learning and socializing with friends.
They come from countries such as Ecuador and Egypt, ready to get their education and make their mark in the world.
However, many students lack basic necessities to help them succeed - things many of us take for granted, such as shelter, food, or clothing.
My Project
I am requesting sweatshirts for my students in a variety of sizes. A basic sweatshirt will help keep the kids warm as the weather gets colder.
So many of my students show up to school without a coat or any type of warm layers, so these sweatshirts will help my students stay warm.
All day long, I see students shivering from our school building's erratic temperature changes and it also hurts my heart to think about them outside walking in the cold to and from the subway to school.
I am also requesting some heat transfer vinyl, so students can personalize their sweatshirt using the Cricut machine previously funded through DonorsChoose.
