My Students
My school is part of a rural school district in South Carolina. My school is only one of the four schools in my district and the only elementary school.
I teach 54 fifth graders who love learning.
My students are unique and so are their learning styles. It can be challenging to meet the needs of them all. They range in ability levels from the 1st to the 99th percentile in Math.
My students are a diverse group from different socioeconomic backgrounds, races, and religions. 75% of my class receives free lunch. Many receive food bags to take home on the weekends, have supplies provided and are part of a coat project through churches in a neighboring city.
My Project
We are a 1:1 school, students use laptops while I am working on math interventions with a small group. It is so important that students are able to focus on the work they are doing.
These headphones will allow students to work in their individualized program without disrupting others and the work I am doing with a small group.
Students use math programs that require students work on their own level. These programs include videos that students watch to help understand a skill.
Now, a few students use earbuds and spend half of their work time detangling them before they can use them. I plan to attach these headphones to the side of their tables and desks so they are easily assessible to use and put away when needed.
