This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school music in a low-income community in California. Our schools have recently suffered many budget cutbacks, so getting needed supplies is difficult. At the same time, we want to make sure that our students stay involved in positive activities, such as music.
There are always many students interested in learning to play the drums, so for the first time we are offering a percussion class. Students will learn how to read music and play many types of percussion instruments. Those who want to can also perform with the band, and we may even form a separate percussion ensemble.
For the sake of volume control and preservation of the instruments, we can't have a full class of students practicing on the actual drums all the time. Practice pads allow the students to practice their music reading and playing skills at a reasonable volume so that multiple students can be instructed at the same time.
Your support will will make it possible for our percussion class get started in a successful way!
