My students need art supplies to express their understanding of content in a variety of ways!

My Students
My students all come from a poverty ridden part of Jacksonville. They all receive free lunch and many people just seem to give up on them. I will do no such thing. I want them to have the same experiences, the same education, and the same resources as the best schools in the city. No child should have to suffer in the classroom because they do not have what others do. Aside from teaching, I believe that it is my role to provide for my students in any way that I possibly can
My Project
According to the Kennedy Center’s Art Edge art integration is “an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate an understanding through an art form. Students engage in the creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.” We would love for you to help make arts integration a reality in our classrooms. After attending a week-long training, we are excited to help are students stay engaged and excited about learning in every class they attend. Using colored pencils, glue, scissors, and other art supplies students will be allowed to express their understanding of different concepts and ideas in a variety of ways. Compositions books make it possible for students to write stories and take notes. In order for us to fully integrate the arts, we also need to be organized. We have included a variety of everyday school supplies that make is possible for us (and our students) to stay organized and effective throughout the school year.
We want our students to paint, draw, act, dance, and sing their way to success!
Arts integration is aligned with how students learn. It allows students to be active participants in their own learning and explore different possibilities and outcomes. Art integration creates critical thinkers and these experiences help them to demonstrate their understanding in art form as well as another curriculum area. Arts integration also invigorates teachers by creating greater satisfaction. A teacher’s attitude really sets the tone of the classroom. If the teacher is excited about learning their students will be too! Help us take our training and put it into action!
