FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. M.'s classroom raised $413
This project is fully funded
I teach preschool in a rural community in southern Louisiana. I have 20 students that range in age from 4 to 5. I teach my students all subjects.
We would like to update our room with a VHS/DVD player/recorder. Currently, we only have a large VHS player. We have many activities that fill our day and do not use videos unless they enhance what we are learning. The videos we watch are also related to the current theme we are learning and also help us meet some of the technology requirements in the classroom. Even though we are selective in how the children watch videos, it is beneficial to them. For instance, we had a unit on the circus and many of the students had not seen a circus before. I had a video of a real circus that I was able to play for them. They really enjoyed seeing an actual circus along with the many pictures and circus related activites that we did in the classroom. Another benefit of having a dual player is that most stores now carry only a small selection of VHS movies because everything is going to DVDs. DVDs are also much smaller and easier to store. There are a lot of materials in a preschool classroom, so space is precious.
The videos/DVDs can enhance the lessons that we learn and even expose the children to events that they have not had the opportunity to enjoy in real life. Because DVDs are now so popular, it would benefit our class to have a VHS/DVD player so that we can enjoy what we have already and also enjoy what is available on DVD. I would like it to also be a recorder because we video tape the children throughout the year and send videos/DVDs home with the children at the end of the year.
