Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help our students expand their minds by researching and printing out facts and pictures for Non-Fiction writing and Social Studies! Our children love to include real pictures of what their writing about in their non-fiction "books", but are unable to because we do not have ink for our printer.

Our school is a cooperative community of learners.

Our classroom has 14 students - 4 who are on the autistic spectrum and 10 who are general education. We have a few English Language Learners, since the community around the school is mainly Spanish speaking. They work together to make our classroom have a feeling of a real community, appreciating all of their differences. They are real individuals who love to express themselves through writing, however they benefit greatly from things like visual aids (which is another reason why we need ink).

My Project

This ink for our printers will not only help our children to add pictures and research facts to their writing and Social Studies, but they will also help our English Language Learners with visuals to reinforce lessons. Our students are learning in writing about how to use digital tools in order to research non-fiction topics. In order to have them do this and then quickly print the research so that the next child can use one of our two computers, we need the ink for our printer. We paid for this printer ourselves (my cooperating teacher and I), but the price of the ink really gets to be expensive! We also are learning about New York City in Social Studies, and the children need to be able to research a certain borough for a project as well.

This initiative that our classroom and school have toward non-fiction writing is something to address the state of New York implementing "Common Core Standards" to help prepare our young children to be successful on their state exams, which start in 3rd grade.

Please help our children learn how to research in 2nd grade so that they can be successful, in this, as they get older!
