I am honored and privileged to teach an amazing group of gifted and talented students. However, getting hands-on, exciting materials for students to interacte with is very difficult in the current financial state of public schools.
It is my experience that students learn best and actually retain information better when they are able to learn interactively with real life materials.
With the help of donors and Donors Choose we have been able to make huge leaps in having these materials. My students are truly grateful and excited to learn with every opportunity provided to them.
My Project
My students would love to celebrate Earth Day by investigating alternative energy options. So often we talk about wind energy, solar energy, and hydroelectric energy, but actually building and interacting would be so much more beneficial for the learning of my students; therefore, we would like a kit to build each of these models. I would also like to end the until by providing the students with the opportunity to build and race a solar car.
It is important to give this generation real world experiences with concrete ways to which we can provide the Earth with the love, care and attention it so deserves, otherwise it is just words that will not pertain to them.
It will always be "someone else's problem". We need to own this problem and have courage to implement solutions!
