My Students

Think back to middle school where it feels everything from school, friends and home life is unexpectedly changing. My scholars are 6th and 7th graders that thrive on meeting academic expectations, while trying to find themselves in this big world. In our math class, students not only work with a formal book curriculum, but we also use an online standards based curriculum that is required by our district. My scholars enjoy working online by playing math games and interacting with the tutorials.

Many of my students become frustrated with themselves when they feel ill-prepared for class and instructional time.

My scholars come from economically disadvantaged homes in the inner city of the largest urban school district in the state. All of our students are at-risk and receive free or reduced lunch. They know they have the ability to amount to greatness, they just need the guidance and materials to succeed.

My Project

Having a class set of headphones will allow all of my students in each class properly use our online math curriculum. The curriculum requires students to interact with the tutorials visually as well as auditory. Sometimes the lessons involve scenarios that are spoken to them, this better assists some of our students that struggle with reading.

The class set of headphones is necessary for students to be able to focus on their individualized lessons to reinforce new or old skills.

Without the headphones, the classroom environment gets too loud for the students to focus on their lessons which can limit the chances of them retaining their lessons.

Everyday, students will spend 20-30 minutes on a computer to complete their lessons and these headphones will allow my entire class to not only hear their lessons but give their undivided attention to their personal lesson.
