it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students in my school absolutely love the library. I teach in an area where there are no public libraries nearby. For many kids visiting the school library is the only opportunity the may have to experience the magic of a library. I try to make the space as warm and comforting as possible.
With this project, I would like to make the library a more beautiful and environmentally friendly space.
I would like to fill up empty walls with plants, herbs, and flowers. Studies have shown that having plants in schools helps to improve concentration and reduce stress. Currently, the walls and shelves near the windows are empty. Placing plants and herbs in these areas would liven up the space yet at the same time bring a sense of calmness.
Since the students in my school live in an urban area, they have very little experience with growing plants. With this project, I would like to set up an herb garden. Students will be able to help take care of the garden, watch the herbs grow, and eventually will be able to take herbs home. I would also like to set up hanging plants on the walls to add to the overall atmosphere of the library. This project would impact all of the students in the school as well as the staff, as there are many meetings held in the library space.
