Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of the students in my classroom come from low income households. They are faced with many challenges every day. Many of their families are working two jobs. They are not fortunate enough to have had experiences that many of us take for granted.
My students are enthusiastic learners.
They enjoy activities that get them out of their seats. They really work well together on any group project. They come to school ready and eager to learn, which makes our day go by so much easier.
My Project
Students will be reading their copy of Wonder by R.J. Palacio to hold small group and whole class discussions to develop a deeper understanding and connection to this powerful story. Students will hold discussions using text dependent questions and be able to provide evidence to support their ideas in speaking and writing.
Students will be making a connection on a real level through discussions and written projects.
The powerful message of this story will be used in the questions posed and the written assignments. Students will be making a connection to their own experiences and the experiences of the main character in this story. I feel the impact of the reading of this book will make an impression on my students that will last a lifetime.
