My Students
Have you tired to show a presentation on a computer and it doesn't work? That is what I am going through depending on unreliable technology.
I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
My students need a working computer to view art and presentations. Up until recently, we were using a great computer that we received until one day it just stopped! I was horrified to return from the summer break and find that our computer was not working! As of now, I am bringing in my personal laptop and using it to show PowerPoint's and art examples large scale making art interactive. Everything was working great but it is very hard to keep my large image files on my personal computer. This computer is so small and compact if needed to I could store it away in a safe place or take it home to work on lessons and power points.
I am trying to develop a curriculum rich in art history, humanities, and culture and need the help of a computer.
It is very hard to enrich children and make them aware that art is expressive about themselves. Trying to show students different ethnic artists, male and female, modern and classical art is made hard without a computer capable of these tasks. Please allow my students to see important images of art that would allow them to be creative and inspired!
