My Students
"It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be" ~Albus Dumbledore. I teach 7th grade students how to navigate the world of middle school during a crazy time period in their lives. As I teach them Literacy, I want them to learn how to imagine and evaluate the words before them!
I teach 7th grade students as a small middle school in Philadelphia.
They are amazing children who are curious and enjoy learning. They like to debate and examine things. Our school tries to foster a strong community of learners who are deeply invested in their education seeing that it will be their way to an outstanding future. Everyday is a new adventure in our classroom as we try to become citizens of a much larger world!
My Project
My students will be using these books to do an in-depth study of Harry Potter. They actually requested that we read this novel! It's so appropriate for middle school students as it deals with many of the issues they are facing in their changing lives and world. In addition to this, students will be able to make connections between the themes in the books and to what is going on in our real world today. They can write argument essays about the banning of the book or examine gender roles in the character of Hermione. We can study character types and make determinations about what house we would be in! These books will enhance my ability to work with the students using the Common Core Standards and allow them to have a rich reading experience.
This project will make a differences because it will hopefully ignite a love of reading in my students and take them beyond just what they see on the big screen.
It will show them a world of fantasy and wonder much beyond what they get through an electronic screen.
