My Students

Do remember the joys of writing and publishing your first story to read aloud to the class? My students love to write their own stories and share them with their peers as well as other teachers and family members, but they need writing supplies to use in the classroom.

I teach fifteen eager first graders in a large, rural Title I elementary school located near the coast of South Carolina.

Most of these students come from low-income homes and do not have access to creative writing materials at home. They are very eager to learn and try new things at school.

My Project

I am requesting a pencil sharpener and journals for my students to practice creative writing. The markers and dry erase boards will be great for practicing pre-writing skills and brainstorming. Having the creative writing materials in our classroom will allow my students to become better, stronger writers. It will inspire them to see how they can improve their stories by editing them and then publishing them to share with others. The students will be motivated to write more creative stories and have a stronger desire to show off their work.

The creative writing materials will help my students understand how rewarding writing can be.

It will help them share their ideas with others in a creative, meaningful way. Some of the supplies can even be used by future groups of students.
