Help Us Get Star Books, CDs, and Puppets For Star Readers!
My students need star books (each book set comes with 4 books), read along CDs, a puppet stand, and puppets to learn beginning reading and cultivate a love of literature.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember when you were a child and someone would read you a book that was so captivating that you would want to hear that story over and over again? Did you ever take that same story and read it on your own because you knew it so well? My Kindergarten students want to do that!
I teach wonderful, inquisitive Kindergarten students in a high need school.
They absolutely love to hear me read stories to them everyday. They are very interested in reading these stories on their own which would help them recognize words and improve their comprehension but we simply don't have enough books.
My Project
The books we are requesting are considered "star" books because they are favorite stories that children love and can easily learn. I read the stories daily for a week and we are supposed to have multiple copies so the children can then read it on their own. The problem is I have entered a new grade without star books. This is an important part of the Kindergarten curriculum and our class desperately needs star books from Lakeshore which come in multiples of 4 with listening CDs and we need puppets with puppet stands to learn story elements and learn how to read!
