Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Sometimes its easy to let the obstacles we face overcome learning. I see this every morning when I come to school. Many of my students lack clean clothes and healthy breakfasts. However, once we enter our classroom, we are transported to a world of learning, where anything is possible.
I am an Art teacher at an elementary school in beautiful Nevada.
The school that I teach at is an at-risk school. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five . All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian (White) and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
I have not been able to show various examples over the last few months because I do not have a computer with these capabilities. At times it is frustrating since the images in books are small and paper printouts are limited to an 8½ x 11 sheet of computer paper. Many of my students do not realize that paintings can be the size of walls! Also, it is hard to show how much detail goes into a work and how grand they are when you are limited to a small size on a sheet of paper.
Your donation will make it possible for every student at my school to be able to view art on a large scale though the use of the new computer. Art is essential in students lives.
I am trying to develop a curriculum rich in art history, humanities, and culture and need the help of a computer.
It is very hard to enrich children and make them aware that art is expressive about themselves. Trying to show students different ethnic artists, male and female, modern and classical art is difficult without a computer capable of these tasks. Please allow my students to see important images of art that would allow them to be creative and inspired!
