My students need tons of supplies, for both class projects and fun activities. We also are in need of different forms of storage for some of the supplies we already have!
In the classrooms of today, students are constantly faced with the challenge of standardized testing and drill and practice. Although that may work for some kids, the children in my district need a lot more!
I teach in a district where there is no value to education in the eyes of the parents.
Children do not come to school prepared to learn. Parents do not teach their children their ABC's, colors, numbers, etc. They don't help their kids with homework, or help study for tests. This all falls on the responsibility of the teachers. I teach in a district that for the past few years, has not met the states high standards for the PSSA's (Pennsylvania's state standardized test). We have fallen into this cycle of "teach to the test," and we have forgotten what school used to be like. I teach in a district that has 4 government run housing plans for the low income families. We receive little or no money to purchase the supplies and amenities we would like to have.
My Project
This is where I ask for all of you to help me give my students the supplies they need. I want to make school a more enjoyable experience for my students! I believe that students need more than a book or a pencil to make learning come alive! They need to cut, color, and create! Not everyone learns from seeing, or listening, some need to get hands on to gain their knowledge. With these supplies, we could make our own books, or draw characters and settings of our favorite stories. Practicing math on our wipe of boards would be much more effective with markers that work, not our old, dried out ones. With the construction paper and paint, we could create diagrams of the flowers we are studying! Learning sentence structure would be much more fun with sentence strips, and we would love to have our favorite books to be displayed properly in a safe new home on the bookshelf, instead of being housed in a storage bin. We have so many uses for these supplies, we hope they become a reality!
By helping me, you are helping the future.
If I could afford to do more for my students, I would. Unfortunately, my money isn't enough. I need your help! My students need your help. Please donate to my project so that I can give them the supplies and organizational tools to help them succeed!
