Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse bunch of eager learners, easily inspired by what goes on around them in the world. The books that they read open them to the world yet unknown. They travel back in time through the lens of a historian or speak like mathematicians while solving problems. Through discussions and collaborative work, my students go on an investigative journey in fifth grade, to figure out what it means to be a good, well-rounded citizen in the world.
My Project
The most basic need for a student who wants to get organized and successful is a student planner! Planners allow students to keep track of assignments and upcoming assessments all in one place. Students without planners struggle to stay organized. I have seen students jot down their homework on pieces of scrap paper, which easily ends up on the floor. I have also had several conversations with parents who complain about not knowing about upcoming tests or quizzes.
Fifth graders will receive lessons around important executive functions that are so necessary as they transition into middle school, by maintaining a planner.
Planners will also serve as a medium in which I can communicate with parents.
