Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Did you ever look for something and you know where to look but you just can't find it? That is how my students feel about our new listening center materials!
My students live in an underprivileged neighborhood and have very little educational resources at home.
The majority of their learning is done during the school day. Our school also has a lot of refugees from other countries that speak little or no English. The language barrier is often difficult to overcome, so as teachers we try to implement resources to help them maximize their learning time.
My Project
One of these tools is a listening center, (which we recently received from Donors Choose)! We have many books and CDs to read and listen to but they are in various bags and Ziplock bags and kept in a metal milk crate. My students often know the book they would like to listen to, but can't find it. I am asking for two storage racks and multiple packs of hanging bags. This will help us get organized and store each book and matching CD together.
These supplies will not only help keep our classroom organized, but also maximize my students learning time.
They will not be searching for materials as long, therefore having more time and exposure to literacy and language!
