Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
They say everything you really need to know you learn in kindergarten. For many school and life skills, this is true! Kindergarten is the foundation upon which all learning is built upon. My students are just learning how to organize their thoughts and possessions and about creating order.
My students are highly motivated and excited about learning new skills and gaining new experiences.
My students are from homes in which English is the second language spoken, but they continue to succeed in English lessons. My students face hardships daily and are forced to grow up faster than they should. My students are mature beyond their age because they are forced into helping support the family unit. My students are the caretakers and babysitters for their siblings while their parents are working. My students are still sweet and innocent regardless of what challenges they may face. My students also are not able to afford many of the "luxuries" that we consider everyday items and necessities, but they make due with what they have and they persevere.
My Project
I am requesting storage bins and containers that will help me teach my students to organize their supplies and belongings. This will help them make sense of things like manipulatives, books, textbooks and basic supplies. The supplies will be labeled in color with a visual, since I have many students who speak English as their second language.
This project would be huge for my students as it would teach them life skills that will help them achieve continued success.
An organized mind is a clear mind and I hope to help my students be able to keep their minds and their spaces clear so that they can focus on the tasks they are given.
