This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My K-5 grade students are eager to learn and demonstrate their creativity. However, it takes them too much time to get materials due to the organization in our classroom. It would benefit our class if the materials were labeled and organized in shelves or cubbies for easy access.
My students are from low income families who do not have the means to bring their children to museums.
We are facing large scale budget cuts in our schools district-wide and it is not an option to go on art based field trips. The students I teach are motivated, bright, inquisitive learners. They deserve to have their artwork showcased and displayed for our school community.
I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school. We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
I see over 971 students a week. My Art room needs to be neat and organized!
If I had a storage unit with caddies it would then make it possible to give students all the supplies they need for a project in just a few seconds. They will also help my students cleanup more efficiently, saving valuable class time! The trays and bins will be used to store supplies or works in progress.
The trouble is that there is not enough student-friendly storage available to make the art accessible to the students all the time. This storage units will put art into the hands of the students and allow all students to find the style they enjoy. My students will learn to appreciate and value more art history then I can provide in a year and on a more personal level of interest.
Organization is essential for students to be successful.
These organizational items will help my students to get their supplies faster and make clean up time more efficient, allowing them to spend more of their class time working on their projects.
