This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
John Dewey once said, "If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." This statement is never more true than it is today. Many children are not learning the technology and computer skills that are needed to enter into and succeed in our competitive workforce.
I am an 8th grade social studies teacher in Long Island City in Queens, NY.
My students, many of whom live in public housing, are some of the most hardworking, dedicated and compassionate students you will ever find. However, with the majority of our students living under the poverty threshold, access to computers is often a luxury.
My Project
My goal is to provide my classroom with an inexpensive Google Chromebook to be used for accessing the Internet, writing essays, making movies and creating presentations. By bringing technology into the classroom, we can help our students to become better prepared for the future. This computer is a much needed resource for our classroom and will be used daily by our deserving students.
Our school is a Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS) school.
Through PBIS we have identified expected student behavior and then teach, model and practice strategies to achieve success. The goal of PBIS is to create STAR students - students who Stay safe, Take responsibility, are Always prepared, and are Respectful. Please help us to not only reward our students who live up to the ideals of PBIS, but help them gain the skills they will need to succeed in high school.

Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
