Children who do not know how to cook regularly rely on packaged foods throughout their days. Allowing my students to cook in class will expose them to new and healthy dishes while also motivating my students to continue cooking and making healthier food choices. I teach special and general education students that attend a New York City Title I public school in Brooklyn, NY.
Now more than ever children are in charge of their own nutrition. My students are no exception. They come in with cookies and candy for snack, instead of healthy foods. My students enjoy cooking and these tools would help them tremendously in the cooking process.
My Project
I am requesting a class cooking kit which includes pots, pans, and other supplies needed to prepare food in. I am requesting three cookbooks that have fun, delicious, and healthy recipes for kids. I am also asking for a storybook about the consequences the Berenstain Bears faced after eating too much junk food.
My students will understand what the process of cooking healthy foods is and this project will help them learn an important life skill. My students will want to take what they learned about healthy food in school and apply it at home. FEED USA is promoting healthy eating habits in schools and I am taking part in the program.
This project is very important because my students will learn that eating healthier is not only making a smarter choice, but a tastier one, also.
This project allows me to take part in the FEED USA program by promoting healthy eating habits in my students. I believe that by initiating my students' interest in eating right, they will continue doing so for the rest of their lives.
