Help us have a more comfortable learning environment! My classroom could best be described as white cinder blocks and cold tile. One thing we are really lacking to make our classroom a nurturing environment is a rug we can gather on for whole group instruction and small group work.
My school is an inner city, high poverty school.
My students come from many different backgrounds and all have their own unique set of challenges. Despite the challenges they face, they are very motivated to do well in school and succeed in life. As their teacher, they inspire me to do my very best to provide the kind of education they deserve.
My Project
The students in my classroom have a wide range of skill levels. I have some students reading far below level, and some reading several grade levels higher. For this reason, I differentiate instruction with math and reading groups. When I put my students in groups to work, many of them sit on the cold tile to do their work. Also, when I teach whole group instruction I call the class to come to the front to be able to see the board better and they are forced to sit on the cold tile floor. Having this rug in our classroom would provide a functional space for learning and a more comfortable learning environment.
Having a rug in our classroom will provide my students with a warm, comfortable spot to collaborate and learn on.
It will also help build our classroom community by allowing us a place to gather to have classroom meetings. Please help our classroom be a more comfortable and functional space by providing us with a rug!
