Help Us Find Places to Sit and Learn!

My students need round tables for working independently, with partners, and in small groups, and flexible seating options for comfort during work time.

My Students

My school is a Title 1 school in Oakland's Chinatown, and my students reflect that highly diverse population.

Nearly 100 % of my students are English Language Learners from immigrant families.

Over 70% percent are receiving free or reduced lunch. Most of my students come to Kindergarten without any previous schooling. Although they may have very limited resources at home, they still come to school everyday eager and excited to learn.

My Kindergartners are just like little sponges learning by listening, talking, cooperating, and collaborating.

My Project

Our classroom should be a more comfortable environment that helps students be their best learning selves. Round tables and alternative seating choices will go a long way in meeting this need. With round tables students can work independently but also easily in pairs and groups. These tables will allow us to quickly move from guided work to independent learning centers throughout the day. The addition of alternative seating will give my Kindergartners some choice of what kind of learning space works best for them to help them focus, communicate, and collaborate during work time.

Each child is different, and each child has different needs to help them do their best in school.

Research shows that movement can engage the body and the mind. While some children can work well when seated on conventional chairs, other children have difficulties staying alert. Wobble seats let children who need movement keep their bodies moving and burning off excess energy so they can focus. Lower ball seats and standard agility ball chairs let children wiggle while developing core strength at their choice of a lower or standard desk height.

When children's bodies are engaged in balancing, blood flows to their brains. Children stay more alert, can concentrate better, and are more engaged.
