Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an inner city kindergarten teacher in Illinois. I am privileged because my students are enthusiastic and eager learners that are excited to learn new things. My school is centered in a community deemed as low socioeconomic with a high population of English Language Learners and students with special needs. When discussing world events, I found that many of my students were not aware of events and cultures outside of their own.
My students need additional help learning about our environment and the world outside of their neighborhoods and school community.
My Project
Weekly Reader’s Let's Find Out magazine will give them a broad range of reading on themes such as tolerance, cultures, seasons, and animals. They can take the weekly magazine home and share it with their families! In addition, we will be able to use interactive digital lessons and activities that are a part of the subscriptions. To ensure I can provide my students an opportunity to an effective and well-informed education that makes them aware and tolerant of what is happening around them, I need assistance with resources. I am requesting for my students a subscription to the Weekly Reader Let's Find Out magazines.
This resource will allow me to effectively build on skills being taught in a fun, educational, and organized way.
Each student will have the magazine to use during small group and independent time and will use the magazine to reinforce skills in Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Writing.
My students will really appreciate and benefit from the magazines.
They will have a new love for reading non-fiction and have a new love and respect for our environment and other cultures. The students are our future. By helping the students learn about our world through the magazines, you are helping them have a desire to maybe one day become leaders of our world.
