Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school and are served breakfast in the classroom. Some eat quickly and have to sit at their table waiting for their friends to finish. I want to use this time to help my students work on their fine motor skills with various type of manipulatives that they can use at their table.

I am an elementary school kindergarten teacher in a high needs school in New York.

I just finished my 7th year as a kindergarten teacher at my school. My classroom is in need of manipulatives to help them work on their fine motor skills.

My Project

My students need manipulative bins like magna cars, creature builders, pipe builders and 3D builders to help strengthen their fine motor skills. No school year is as important as Kindergarten! This is the year that will shape a child's attitude about school and about learning. Making it the most positive and nurturing experience is a way to insure that these children will continue to love learning and strive to do their best in school. Many of my students have poor fine motor skills when they come to school in September and because there is less time to play in Kindergarten they don't always get a chance to strengthen those skills. The materials I am requesting will strengthen my students fine motor skills. I also want to give them the requested materials to help them use their imagination, and channel their inner engineer.

My project is so important to me because kindergarten education has become heavily focused on teaching literacy and other academic skills, and those with poor fine motor skills tend to struggle.

I want to make sure that they get a chance each day to work on those skills, as well as a chance to use their imagination everyday by incorporating the use of building manipulatives in the morning.
