Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing and despite them having special needs, they continue to learn and strive to be great. Some are verbal and others are minimally verbal. Most of my students are between fourth and sixth grade, in a special education classroom. I have twelve students enrolled in my class. My students range from secondary school to middle school. Each student in my class comes from the South Bronx section of the Bronx. They face challenges in and outside of school, but they always show up to school happy and ready to learn new things every day. In the school, each student qualifies to receive free breakfast and lunch due to financial hardship.
My students are capable of so much more if they had access to all the proper tools and guidance.
I am constantly amazed by their ability to strive to do better in spite of their multiple disabilities, both physically and cognitively.
My Project
In my class we use two different programs that require the student to have a variety of books. In one of the programs we have they use a Fountas and Pinnell assessment. This gives students a chance to see books at their independent reading levels and higher. So that they can build up the confidence they need to not only move up in levels but obtain a joy of reading.
This library will allows my students with disabilities to access books on their level and build the confidence they need to improve their reading!
