I am currently teaching the first grade at a school located in the rural community of Burgaw, NC. We are a Title I school with over 80% students who receive free or reduced lunch. I am the grade level ELL cluster teacher. This means that I teach the students who are English Language Learners. I have three non-English speaking students in my class and seven ELL students who are not proficient according to grade level state standards.
It is often quite hard for these students to learn important mathematical concepts. It is my job as a teacher to provide them with meaningful, hands-on lessons that will best meet their needs. However, I am only allotted $200 a year to spend on class supplies. I simply cannot purchase all of the needed supplies to supplement my lessons. I am seeking funding for several overhead math kits that will help my students to learn math while having fun doing so. If there is anyone out there who could please find it in their hearts to help out these children, we would so greatly appreciate it. Together with the community's help, we can make a difference in the lives of our youth. Thank you.
