My Students
My students are like most middle school students. They don't like to read. I need to provide new literature that they will enjoy reading.
I teach gifted students who come from poverty.
They want to learn, but often face many obstacles. They are smart, but they are often not academically motivated. They need to be challenged with literature that interests them and helps them to be inspired and think.
My Project
This class set of novels "The Hunger Games" will allow my entire class to read and discuss an excellent work of fiction. I chose this book because my previous students who have read it loved it. It also explores a lot of themes that my students face. By reading it together, we can discuss these themes and promote critical thinking.
These books will help me update the novels we read together as a class and make my students enjoy reading rather than think it is a chore.
We will be able to explore issues of desensitization, survival, friendship, loyalty, and man's role in society.
