This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach English language learners in a Title I public school in New York City. Most of my students come from Hispanic backgrounds where Spanish is the dominant language spoken at home. My students are always excited to learn new things. They face challenges in learning the English language; however, they have the willingness to learn and do their absolute best every day.
As an ELL teacher, I get the opportunity to work with my students for multiple years and I always love to see the growth in their academics from year to year.
It's important for all students, especially English Language Learners, to have access to activities where they are engaged and are learning whether in person or at home. It is important for all students to have visuals while they are learning!
This year we have been reading a variety of books that are reflecting the student's culture as well as other cultures. Some of these titles are supplemental to ones we have read this year and others are to help expand our ever-growing classroom library.
