This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I primary school for PK-1st grade only. Lots of littles and lots of fun! My students are creative, active, curious, and love to try any kind of art media they can get their hands on. A lot of my students don't have art resources at home, so my class may be the only place they get exposed to art and get to explore and create.
My Project
We were recently blessed enough to receive 2 new drying racks and are hoping to get 1 more to fit everyone's artwork. I see about 100 kids a day! What we currently have is ancient drying racks that are falling apart. My art class is a fun place to learn with some silly mixed in for good measure. We dry our artwork on what we call the "pizza ovens," which are art drying racks. The students think calling the racks "pizza ovens" is hilarious and it helps them remember where to dry their art. We would love 1 more drying rack that isn't falling apart to keep our artwork safe. My students range from PK-1st grade and they love coming to art class every week; we read stories that relate to our projects, learn about different artists, and explore different art media.
One of my students' favorite thing to do in the art room is paint and we would love a new "pizza oven" to dry their masterpieces!
Another thing we learn in the art room is how to work independently. Students learn where to get needed supplies, how to clean up after themselves, and where to put their artwork for drying or storage. New drying racks, or "pizza ovens" will help my students by giving them a safe place to dry their work without it being damaged and the ability to do so independently. I want to give my students the best experience possible while they are in the art room.
