Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm an elementary and middle school art teacher at a bilingual charter school. Students receive education in both English and in Spanish, wherefore by the time they move onto high school, they will be fully bilingual. We are a Title I school, with 90% percent of our students coming from low income families.
For many of my students, my classroom is the only place they can create art.
I hope to be able to provide them with quality supplies to ensure they can truly express themselves, learn new art techniques, as well as create art from their culture.
My Project
My students are currently working with old markers and colored pencils, some of which were from the previous years. They are limited in the colors available to them, as well as the quality of the materials. This can result in frustration in how their work appears after coloring.
New coloring materials will help them be proud of the end result of their work.
With quality materials, my students will be able to create quality work. My students will also be introduced to watercolor pencils, which allows them to combine coloring, as well as an introduction to watercolor painting! For some this will be a stepping stone into the world of painting.
