Do you remember ever being fully engaged and enjoying center time as a child? My students are lacking the supplies to make center time not only fun and engaging but a meaningful learning experience in which they look forward to everyday.
I teach at a great elementary school in Miami Beach, Florida.
My students love to read and work really hard to increase their reading ability. The literacy center resources requested will be for my second grade students to use during the independent learning part of our reading time.
My Project
Due to varying levels of reading abilities, I dedicate a part of the day to implement Literacy Centers. This provides time to reinforce concepts and practice skills in small groups. While students are in Centers, I am able to pull individual students and small groups in rotation to work on specific concepts. Currently, I do not have a variety of materials to engage my students.
For this project I have requested several sets of magnetic and stamped letters, magnetic easels and stamp pads that will provide my students opportunities to practice various word work activities. I have also requested whisper phones for buddy reading. This ensures that students are able to hear one another without disturbing students in other centers. In addition, the dry erase pockets will allow my students to use their versatile center activities over and over again while saving paper.
Thanks to your help, each student in my class will be able to have valuable resources right at their fingertips which will assist them in becoming wonderful readers!
