This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are 6th-8th graders in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are a Title I school that serves a diverse student population. One thing our students and parents consistently agree on is that our teachers, administration, and school staff make our school a safe and positive place to learn. Our kids are bright, strong and resilient and together we make up an amazing community.

My Project

Our school was without a school counselor until last week. We are a high needs school -- many of our students have a history of trauma and our school has a large percentage of students on free an reduced lunch. Unlike many schools in our district, we are without a school based health center or on-site mental health therapist, so school counseling is even more critical for our students.

As new counselors to the school, we want to introduce our students to a safe, welcoming, and comfortable space.

Your donation will help us do that by providing us with comfortable and flexible seating, sensory objects like magnetic tiles and kinetic sand, fidget and sensory toys for students to use when talking or taking time to calm down, and snacks to help make sure that students are full enough at school to learn.
