I have had the pleasure of working with some of my ESOL students for multiple years. I have seen their reading skills grow each year. My students need more challenging materials to help them master grade level reading comprehension skills.
I work with ESOL students who come from a variety of different backgrounds.
Many of the students are born in the United States to immigrant parents. The majority of them deal with the challenges of poverty on top of navigating more than one language. They work hard keep up with challenging grade level material, though often struggle with more complex texts and vocabulary.
My Project
I will use these materials to assist my students in meeting grade level standards in language arts. The High-Interest Intervention Reading Folders, Nonfiction Comprehension Quickie Cards, and Highlight Your Skills Reading Cards will allow expose my students to increasingly difficult texts. These materials are interactive which will help keep the ESOL students engaged. The Reading Comprehension Bingo Library will allow my students to practice new skills in a fun way. The Magnetic Teaching Charts will assist me in modeling new concepts and then provide students with the change to immediately practice these new skills.
These reading comprehension materials will assist my ESOL students in reaching grade level standards and increasing their reading levels.
The reading skills they gain through these materials will stay with my students for years to come.
