My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I want to provide my students with positive and meaningful learning experiences.
Many of my students are being raised in single parent households or by their grandparents and receive a free lunch and breakfast due to their socioeconomic status.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I want the best for my students and see each of them become successful in life.
My Project
Having this set of Chromebooks will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. One way they will be used is as a STEM center. Students can look up pictures of catapults and then design their own using nothing more than Popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and Pom-poms. Another way they will be used is by recording the results of an experiment. They could collaborate on group findings by sharing through the cloud. I could download apps for various math practice skills for a math center, which would allow me to have activities for both my highest performing and most struggling students.
My project will make a difference because it will close the gap between our low income classroom and other classrooms across the nation.
Our classrooms are not yet at the level technologically to meet their needs as learners. This grant will help to close that gap just a little bit more.
