Help Us Connect To Our Military Parents!

My students need a camera with video capability to be able to record special events at school to share with parents that are deployed.

My Students

Do you remember the feelings you had as you watched your child's school programs and other important events? It is very hard for parents and children to be separated. The absent parent misses out on school activities and it is hard for them to feel like they are a part of their child's education.

I have a group of students who have a parent deployed.

These students and their families sacrifice so much for our country. One parent struggles to manage all that goes into raising the children and maintaining the home, while the other parent is gone. The parent that is gone feels removed from the family. We have one student who lost his father in service to our country. This student, instead of being bitter, still believes in the armed forces. He chose this career in his PowerPoint presentation of his future career plans. Our school is an area that is struggling. The parents are all very hard working people, with more and more struggling to find work or have enough work to make ends meet. These families often face financial issues due to loss of wages while the parent is gone.

My Project

We want to be able to take videos of everyday school events as well as the special events that occur. We would like to be able to make presentations to send to the absent parent, and help research information for the families. This camera and accessories will help with taking the pictures, videos and composing projects. In addition to helping keep connected with absent parents, the students want to educate other students about the military. We are going to develop a special bulletin board to show off our military families. The group is also going to produce videos to show to the school student body that will not only showcase their American Hero, but also help students learn about what it is like to be in a military family. We are hoping to start reaching out to other schools in the area to form a larger support group. Eventually, we plan to expand to the middle and high school levels. The camera will also be available for the entire staff to use for special events.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Often in times of disaster they talk about the worst losses: the memories that are gone. For military families, they live constantly with the loss of being able to share precious memories. With all the sacrifice they make, this project would make such a difference for those families. Can you be a part of a project that will allow these families to share some memories, even if not in person? I appreciate any size donation! Thank you.
