This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the most resilient and positive 2nd graders around! All 31 of my students enter my classroom each morning ready to share experiences, learn and to grow together every day.
Located on Chicago's West Side, I teach at a school where 96% of my students qualify for free and reduced cost lunches and almost half are English Language Learners.
This does not define them. They are hopeful dreamers, thinkers, and collaborators! Their neighborhood has been one of the hardest hit with COVID-19 in the city of Chicago, yet they remain hopeful, positive and hardworking. This group of 7 and 8 years olds loves to learn more than anything and as their teacher, I do the best I can every day to facilitate this each and every day!
My Project
I am requesting 20 sets of headphones for my 2nd grade students! In my classroom, we are lucky enough to have iPads and many great tech programs to help with student literacy and mathematics. However, with 30 other students in the classroom, it isn't always easy to hear the programs when all students have their sound on.
Technology is such a wonderful way to supplement a 21st century learner's education, but only if they can hear the content!
My students use a Literacy program where they are listening to phonics sounds, words and sentences. However, with small group learning, teacher centers and other collaborative learning happening at the same time, students are on using their iPads, my students need headphones, so that they can effectively progress through their programs!
My students will use these headphones in the classroom every single day, so they can use their literacy and math programs, as well as hear lessons I prepare for them in advance and send to their iPads! Headphones can truly help enhance my students learning experience!
