This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at an urban school in New York where the students are regularly confronted with violence and economic struggles.
My students are able to escape these issues when they enter our school. They come to me with an eagerness to learn and a desire to achieve. I want to help encourage this ambition by providing them with the examples and resources that they need, as well as an exciting and inviting place to learn.
Recently our school has been fortunate enough to receive grants that give our students access to online computer programs that can be individualized to meet student needs. Unfortunately, our classroom only has 1 working computer to access these sites.
I am asking for 2 additional laptops so that students can access these amazing reading and math sites on their own. I want to set up small groups to use the computers each day to help strugglers practice necessary skills as well as challenge those that have already mastered them. I know that having these resources in our room will help my students achieve even higher levels and will allow us to take full advantage of the opportunities our school has been given.
Your donation will help make it possible for my students to read books on their level while testing their comprehension. It will give us access to a math program that can be specialized to provide students with individual activities based upon skills that they need to work on. It will also provide us with reference materials, and a huge motivation to read and learn. These computers will be a huge leap into the 21st century of learning that our students truly need. Please help us get the technology we need to be a modern and successful classroom.
