My Students
Many of my students, especially my reluctant readers, love reading graphic novels. Unfortunately due to heavy circulation through our classroom they don't hold up well as they move from hand to hand, backpack to backpack, and reader to reader. We need more copies of these popular books!
My class is an energetic group that's starting to develop that love for reading.
I want to encourage the love of reading and graphic novels are a great way to get even the most reluctant readers happy to have reading time. Graphic novels are becoming more and more popular and are gaining a bit of credibility. Help my students develop a love of reading that will start with graphic novels and end with regular novels.
My Project
We have a good graphic novel section in our classroom library and the most popular books by far are the Bone series by Jeff Smith. These books have been replaced about 5 times in the past 4 years because of high levels of use. It's time to trade up to hardcovers to they'll last longer and more kids can read them.
I am requesting the books #5-9 in the Bone series as well as the Bone Prequel to replace the copies that are falling apart.
The last 5 books in this series of books provides the conclusion to this epic adventure. I don't want students to read the first 4 books and then have to look through books with pages falling out and missing or even worse have entire volumes not in our class library. That is why I'd like to have a full set of all the books in dependable hardcover format!
I'm trying to get as many books in hardcover or library binding as I can to ensure that these books will be used by many classes in the future and will withstand the readings and repeated readings that they're sure to get.
In under half a year, some of my current graphic novels have been read by over a third of my class and they certainly have seen better days. Help us upgrade this popular section of our class library!
