Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach Kindergarten in a high poverty school. The majority of my students have had no preschool experiences and enter my room with very little understanding of basic concepts. In addition, approximately half of my students are English Learners and need additional support to learn academic vocabulary. It is of utmost importance that we find ways to reach all learning modalities in this essential first year of school.

Kindergarten students LOVE learning to read! They eagerly embrace every opportunity for hands-on experiences at manipulating letters and words. My students love to come up front and write or move words into correct sentence order. The more we expose them to these types of experiences, the more successful students they become.

A pocket chart stand, along with pocket chart kits for "Letter of the Day" and "Word Families", and tablets and sentence strips for writing would provide my students with myriad opportunities for hands-on learning. The mobility of the chart will provide me with a convenient way to move an activity from the whole group to a small group.
