My students need a class set of Catching Fire, and a class set of Mockingjay.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Carson's classroom raised $995

My Students
My students have overcome life obstacles that I couldn't even imagine. When I started teaching The Hunger Games, some of them literally got lost in a fantasy world that distracted them from the challenges faced at home. I want to continue nourishing my students' thirst for reading with these books.
My students live in a world where violence is normal, crime is a way of life, and intelligence shows weakness.
Some of my students live in homeless shelters, others live with 10 or 15 other relatives in a two bedroom apartment. Our school is dilapidated, and on the verge of collapsing (literally). We have mice that have taken over parts of the school where learning is taking place. Even after all the problems we face in the school, my classroom is a different story. We love reading, writing, and I have gotten my students to open up to me about their problems. That's why when I discovered how much they love Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, I knew I wanted more for them. I want them to have a chance to hold a brand new book as we read and dissect the material as a class. I want them to see what brand new books look like, feel like, and smell like, because some of them have never gotten to experience this before. I want them to have something to look forward to at school and beyond.
My Project
If we get these books, we will be able to do guided reading as well as Silent Sustained Reading as a class. I will be able to witness my lowest reader finally learning to love reading and its process. I will also be able to enrich their lives with words and imagery -- and teach as to why the power of a book is infinite. They need to learn to love reading, and these books will help them do that.
âThe more you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.â
- Dr. Seuss, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
I want my students to know the power of books, and understand that if they can read, and read well, life's opportunities are endless. Regardless of where they are from, or how much money they have, reading has the ability to take them places they never imagined they could go.
