This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love playing basketball more than anything but the broken hoop they have been using for years on our empty, blacktop playground has finally been removed. We need a new hoop as well as chain and lock to protect it so these kids can play the game that they love so much once again.
I teach 5th-8th grade public school students in a high poverty community in New Jersey.
Our school has incredibly limited funding and because of this, our physical education program has suffered tremendously. My students have a natural love and talent for basketball and have been dramatically impacted by the lack of resources.
My Project
If we received this basketball hoop, lock, and chain, hundreds of inner city at-risk children would benefit every week. Their love of physical activity would thrive and their sense of school community would blossom. These resources would teach my students to be the best athletes they can be as well as teach them about the value of teamwork and cooperation.
Donations to this project will make a huge impact on hundreds of students who simply want to be outside playing basketball before school, during lunch, after school, and during physical education classes.
I hope that if we receive these materials, many students will develop a lifelong love of playing basketball and being on a team.
