This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My transitional kindergarten students attend a high poverty school located in the San Fernando Valley. The class includes students with disabilities and students that are learning to speak English for the first time. My students start school at age four, and will all soon be having their fifth birthdays. This class visitor project will benefit these students, as well as all the students at the school.

Please help my LAUSD elementary school bring author Alexis O'Neill to our school!

Writing is one of the most difficult subjects to learn in elementary school. Printing, spelling, punctuation, and coming up with words to put on the page is a lot to ask from young children. Having some encouragement from a professional writer would help them to persevere in the challenge of learning to write.

My Project

Our students work hard every day learning to write. Some of them dream of becoming writers when they grow up. I would love to bring Alexis O'Neill, author of children's books such as The Recess Queen, to our school.

Mrs. O'Neill has a wonderful presentation that will inspire our students to write!

Her assembly takes us through the process of writing and creating a book, from start to finish. The students will be able to experience the writer's journey from a professional that has been through it herself so many times.

This author visit will benefit students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Meeting and listening to a successful author will help our students see what is involved in creating a book, and help those that may want to choose this as a profession of their own one day. Your donation will make all the difference in the lives of these students!
