This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My little first graders are full of questions and imagination. They are eager for information about the world around them.
My wonderful first graders are beautiful, inspiring and very active.
They live in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood in California. Over 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch, and many do not have a lot of toys or books at home. Our students often come to school hungry because their parents had no money to feed them breakfast. Most teachers at our school keep graham crackers in our classrooms to feed students who did not get breakfast. My students often ask Santa for new shoes, or clothes for their siblings when we make our Christmas lists. They are very interested in animals and how things work. I would love to provide a microscope and some magnet materials for independent exploration.
My Project
My students are very interested in living things around them. We make sure that every cricket or spider that happens to wander into our classroom is escorted safely outside without harming the critter. The microscope would be used to safely have a closer look at the bugs, leaves, etc. that my students bring to the classroom.
Our first graders learn about magnets as part of their science curriculum. I have 3 magnets for my 24 students to share. I would love the boys and girls to have a few more magnets of various types to experiment with.
Your donation will have an enormous impact on my students.
It will help me to provide a safe and fun learning environment for my students. They will have a chance to become little scientists.
