My Students

Can you imagine drawing something and then create a 3D model of it? I can! With new technology at our fingerprints this can be possible!

I am the Art Specialist in a K-5 Arts school.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though 5th grade. All students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.

My Project

The Makerbot 3-D Printer will be used in both the Visual Art and Technology classrooms to further the curricula already in place. Students will learn how everyday items that are drawn can be made and replicated in 3D. One of the things that I want to teach my students is prototyping skills, so they can begin to put their ideas into action using a 3D printer.

This will allow my students to be able to explore and see their art drawings that are often so hard for them to grasp.
