Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As I prepare for the upcoming school year, I’m reaching out for support in helping me create a learning environment that is both effective and inspiring for my 3rd grade Reading and Writing students. Many of the items on my wishlist are tools that will directly support instruction and learning. For example, computer headsets will allow students to work independently on reading programs and online assessments without distraction. Guided reading strips will help students track print more easily while building fluency and comprehension. Pencil sharpeners, file folders, mesh pouches, and laminating sheets will help keep materials organized, especially for our literacy centers (which are a vital part of small group instruction).Tabletop easel pads and Play-Doh will be used for hands-on work to keep learning engaging and multisensory.
My classroom will have a tropical theme, and I’m asking for items like banners, paper flowers, accent letters, a Hawaiian table skirt, and bulletin board holders to bring it to life.
Positive mindset posters will reinforce a growth mindset culture and remind students daily that effort, persistence, and kindness matter. Birthday crowns will help students feel celebrated and seen on their special day. Altogether, these pieces will turn our classroom into a place where students are excited to come every day and feel safe to take risks and grow as readers and writers.
My goal with this project is to build a space that supports academic success while promoting joy, creativity, and a strong sense of community. My students are incredibly special. They come with unique talents, backgrounds, and challenges. They thrive when they feel supported, encouraged, and loved. Every item on this list has been thoughtfully selected with them in mind.
