My Students
I teach 90 adolescents everyday, but they also teach me something new each day. As a teacher, I hope to help my students plant seeds of learning, to explore new ideas, to gain a shared experiences, to become the type of creative, literate thinkers to succeed in college, to do well at work, to have meaningful conversations, and to find solutions to present and future problems. Our future is in the hands of these young adults and I take my job very seriously.
My Project
When I heard that Dr. Ibram X. Kendi would be writing a young adult version of his formidable book, and that Jason Reynolds signed on to help co-write the book, I could not contain m excitement. I was NOT disappointed. Everything that is amazing about Stamped From the Beginning is next level amazing in Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You.
Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You should be required reading in all American schools.
Students need to know and understand U.S history (even if Jason Reynolds is quick to tell us that it's "not a history book"). It is essential reading. This student centered adaptation is a very accessible and a very necessary overview of 500+ years of racism and antiracism in the United States. My students need to read this book. Please help me purchase a class set. Thank you for your generosity.
