My students are in six different elementary schools. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide the most engaging and enriching music learning experiences for my students.
I am asking for materials to continue building my K-2 general music program in the coming year.
There is a serious lack of funding to support ongoing general music programs in public schools. In order to continue to provide engaging learning activities for my students, I need additional resources. These rich musical experiences bring joy, build their self-confidence and create a community of learners in a way that only music can do!
My Project
I want to introduce Dr. John Feierabend's music curriculum, First Steps in Music(FSIM) to all my Pre-K through 2nd grade classes at six elementary schools in Long Beach USD. These books will prove to be invaluable resources in building my K-2 general music program. Using the FSIM curriculum, students will become tuneful, artful and beatful musicians, while at the same time creating a life-long appreciation of music. The learning activities of FSIM include listening, singing, movement and playing instruments. In addition, I am requesting a portable voice amplifier to be used during music classes which not only saves my voice, but helps the children hear clearly!
